Understanding the MDS Program
MDS is a three-year, full-time post-graduate degree designed to train dentists to become professional specialists in a specific area of dentistry using both theory and practical skills. All MDS training must be conducted according to the Dental Council of India’s MDS Course Regulations, 2017.

MDS Specializations Available at MITMIDSR
MITMIDSR offers MDS programs in 9 specialized departments. Here’s what each specialization actually covers:
1. Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge
This department deals with restoring and replacing teeth. You’ll learn crown and bridge work, dentures, dental implants, and complete or partial prosthesis. It’s aesthetic dentistry combined with functional restoration.

2. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral Surgery is a unique branch bridging dentistry and medical science. Our department treats maxillofacial trauma, odontogenic cysts, tumors, cosmetic jaw corrections, temporomandibular joint disorders, oro-facial infections, and other jaw pathologies. We have collaboration with MIMSR Medical College for head & neck oncology, cleft lip and palate, and microvascular reconstruction of jaw surgeries.

3. Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics
This is about saving teeth through root canal treatments and restorative procedures. You’ll learn advanced endodontic techniques, caries prevention, and dental material science.

4. Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
Braces, removable appliances, aligners – you’ll correct teeth alignment and jaw discrepancies. Our department offers training in Nemoceph in Orthodontics and other advanced techniques.

5. Periodontology and Implantology
Gum disease treatment, periodontal surgery, and implant placement. Our faculty includes Dr. Raghavendra Metri (HOD & Professor), Dr. Omkumar Nemichand Baghle, Dr. Gauri Mahesh Ugale, Dr. Vishnudas Dwarkadas Bhandari, and several lecturers and tutors.

6. Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry
Children’s dentistry. Behavior management, pediatric restorative procedures, and preventive care. We focus on making children comfortable with dental visits.

7. Oral Pathology
Diagnosis of oral diseases through tissue examination. You’ll become the expert who identifies oral cancers, lesions, and systemic diseases manifesting in the mouth.

8. Public Health Dentistry
Community oral health, government health programs, and dental public health policy. Room No. 11, MIDSR Dental College, MIT Campus handles this department.

9. Oral Medicine
Diagnosis through clinical examination and radiology. CBCT scans, X-rays, and clinical diagnosis are part of this training.

Eligibility Criteria for MDS Admission 2026
To apply for MDS at MITMIDSR, you must meet these requirements:
Educational Qualification
- BDS Degree from a college recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI)
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in BDS (for all categories)
Internship Completion
- Compulsory 1-year rotating internship must be completed by May 31, 2026 for MDS Admission 2026
Registration
- Permanent or provisional registration with State Dental Council or DCI
NEET MDS Qualification
- Must qualify NEET MDS 2026 entrance exam
- Exam was conducted on May 2, 2026 (3 hours, Computer-Based Test, 240 questions)
- Result declared on June 2, 2026

MDS Admission Process 2026: Step-by-Step
The admission process follows the national framework. Here’s exactly how it works:
Step 1: NEET MDS 2026 Examination
Apply through NBEMS website. The exam is computer-based, 3 hours long, with 240 questions covering all BDS subjects.
Step 2: Result and Scorecard
The result came out June 2, 2026. Scorecards downloadable from June 10, 2026.
Step 3: Counseling Registration
You must register for counseling based on quota:
All India Quota (AIQ): For 50% government college seats and 100% deemed/central institution seats. Register at mcc.nic.in
State Quota (Maharashtra): For 50% state college seats. Register at Maharashtra DMER counseling portal. Admission to MDS at MIDSR Dental College Latur is based on Maharashtra NEET MDS Counselling conducted by Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Maharashtra.
Separate registrations required for AIQ and state quota. Counseling fee varies by category.
Step 4: Choice Filling
During registration, fill your preferred colleges and specializations. List MITMIDSR if you want to join us. List your preferred specialization too.
Step 5: Seat Allotment
MCC or state counseling processes applications based on NEET MDS All India Rank (AIR), category, reservation, and choices filled. Results announced after each round.
