Oral Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a unique branch which bridges disciplines of Dentistry and Medical Science since decades. Oral Surgery training has evolved to a new concept as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Oral Surgery. It is a branch that deals with the art of diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, pathologies and defects involving the orofacial region.

The undergraduate training starts from 3rd Year BDS onwards. The programme involves lectures, seminars, clinical experiences and clinical teaching in last 2 years of curriculum.The faculty guides all the undergraduate students for basic exodontia, minor oral surgical procedures which are undoubtedly essential to practice as a general dental practitioner.

The department has full strength of highly qualified staff as per national and International standards, recognized by Dental Council of India. This is the only department in Latur which gets referrals and treats Maxillofacial trauma, Odontogenic cyst, Tumors, Cosmetic jaw correction, Temporomandibular joint disorders, Orthognathic surgery, Oro-facial infections, dental implants& other jaw pathologies from 4 districts and 250km radius. The Department has collaboration with MIMSR Medical College and is involved in surgeries of inter-departmental interest such as Head & neck oncology, Cleft lip and Palate, micro vascular reconstruction of jaw is performed with good results and the poor and needy patients are benefitted with low or negligible cost.

The department offers postgraduate program in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty with the intake of five postgraduate students per year since 2022 and before that three postgraduate students per year. The postgraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in both clinics and academics.

In the clinical area the student is exposed to different therapeutic philosophies both old and new through independent study, demonstrations and practice.
A series of seminars, case discussions & journal clubs are held every week for the allround skill improvement of the students.  For this continued education programs are also conducted at regional and national levels in association and with guidance from Maharashtra University of Health sciences, Nashik and Dental Council of India, New Delhi
