Oral Pathology

Introduction: Oral Pathology & Microbiology is that part of pathology and a branch of dentistry concerned with the scientific study of the causes and effects of oral disease an understanding of which is essential for diagnosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programmes.

Oral Pathology department is actively involved in providing services to the patients in the areas of haematology, biochemistry, histopathology, cytology and microbiology. The curriculum is related to the overall development of the students in the dental anatomy, dental histology and to identify the pathological and microbiological aspects of oral diseases in Oral pathology.

The department has well equipped and organized Haematology Section, Histopathology Section, Cytology Section and Research Section. The Under Graduate Section is well equipped with 40 monocular light microscopes, which are being used to demonstrate the microscopic features of normal structures (65 slides) & diseases process (85 slides). There are good numbers of self-explanatory charts/models of normal & abnormal structures of oral region. The departmental museum has unique collection of study models, hard & soft tissue specimens which are neatly displayed in separate sections like dental anatomy, comparative dental anatomy, developmental disturbances and pathological lesions based on various etiologies. The undergraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in the department.
