The Mission of MIDSR Dental College, Latur is “HEALTH FOR ALL” as envisioned by the World Health Organization. This is sought to be achieved through state-of-the-art infrastructure and dental facilities, in an academically vibrant environment, through innovative practices in dental education and research, inculcating Social, Moral and Spiritual Values in the Dental Professionals.

Oral medicine is a specialty within dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis and management of complex diagnostic and medical disorders affecting the maxillofacial region. Clinicians with advanced training in this discipline manage potentially malignant lesions and ulcerative lesions, salivary gland disorders, TMJ disorders, and management of orofacial pain. The department consists of Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology sections. The patient first approaches the department of Oral Medicine, where initial screening with Provisional Diagnosis is completed. The department also provides dental care for the patient with systemic diseases and medically compromised patient. Further it also includes the behavioral disorders. After screening, the patient is evaluated for investigations & is preceded with. Patients are referred to Oral Radiology department depending on x ray requirement. The dept. of OMDR is fully furnished with all the required amenities. Various lesions in Oral & Maxillofacial region are evaluated in department of Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology including initial screening, investigations, tobacco counseling, oral radiographs and treatment plan.
The student’s education is the stepwise learning & assessment in department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Primary objective of the department is to provide students a basic and advanced education in Oral Medicine and Radiology for an understanding of the maxillofacial diseases and its management. The student learning begins from chair position guidelines, importance of medicine in dentistry, demonstration radiographic techniques. The students are exposed to various clinical cases which begins their clinical course. The patient treated in the department of Oral Medicine are oral Submucous fibrosis, Lichen planus, Leukoplakia, herpes infection, viral infection, fungal infection, Neuralgias, salivary gland disorders, TMJ disorders. The entire syllabus is systematically planned for clinical and academic growth of students. The students are evaluated at the end of their posting. The students are made aware of various contagious diseases to avoid any cross contamination. Students are also made aware of radiation hazards are also explained about personal and patient protection. Students are discussed for detailed systematic interpretation of oral radiographs, their by enhancing their diagnostic skills. The students are trained for early cancer detection and tobacco counseling. They also gain knowledge to motivate and educate the patients for cancer therapy and prevention.
All the patients from pediatric to geriatric are evaluated in the department of Oral Medicine. The aim of department includes patient’s awareness to oral problems apart from their chief complaint. A comprehensive treatment plan is explained at the end of screening. The patients are explained about the role of each department’s treatment. Oral medicine provides optimal health to all patients through gathering relevant medical and dental information for diagnostic and medical management of oral diseases.
All the staff members of the department are actively involved in the research projects apart from having National and International publications and their contributions to book. The undergraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in both clinics and academics.
Oral Medicine | Maharashtra Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Dental College
The department of Public Health Dentistry is dedicated in training of the undergraduate students to look after the community rather than an individual. The department works on the principle of “placing people’s health in people’s hand”. It focuses on the Promotive, preventive and curative aspects of the disease with the help of various outreach programs in the community. The department is concerned with the dental health education of the community, research and the application of the research findings for the prevention and control of dental diseases through community efforts. The department promotes the overall development of the students and education is based on the principle of “Learning
by Doing.”

The outreach programs are carried out on regular basis with the help of mobile dental unit through organized dental camps. The camps are conducted with the aim of making people aware about the oral health, promoting oral health among them and provision of basic treatments such as oral prophylaxis, Extractions & restorations free of cost. The department also conducts School Health Programs which includes the parents, teachers & students’ education about the oral health, fluoride applications and routine oral health check up of the students on regular basis. The ultimate goal of the department is to specifically look after the weaker sections of the community and to focus on overall preventive, promotive & curative aspects of the oral health.
Public Health Dentistry | Maharashtra Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Dental College
Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry is an age related specialty meant for comprehensive oral health care of infants and children usually up to the age of 14 years. The department of paediatric dentistry is considered as one of the challenging branch as it deals with not only the treatment aspects of the children but to instill the positive attitude towards the dentistry and to develop their Psychomotor Skills.
The department believes that each pediatric patient should be given an opportunity to receive complete dental and oral care, and specially focused on the care & protection of children. The department strives to alleviate a child’s fear by using specialized language and skills to explain procedure in a way they can understand. The department also works hard to address parental concerns by explaining each child’s dental condition, why and what type of treatment have been planned and how it might be prevented in future in all aspects.
The department has experienced and skilled faculty who take care of the children visiting to the department as a patients and looks personally after each and every child patient. The department faculty trains the students in the handling & behavior management of the children which helps the UG & PG students to develop their communication skills. The department has all the modern equipment, instrument and a well developed play section for the best quality treatment provision. The department ensures that every patient and parents have a positive experience in the services provided.
The department offers postgraduate program in the Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry specialty with the intake of three postgraduate students per year. The postgraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in both clinics and academics.
Pedodontics | Maharashtra Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Dental College
Oral Pathology & Microbiology is that part of pathology and a branch of dentistry concerned with the scientific study of the causes and effects of oral disease an understanding of which is essential for diagnosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programmes.

Oral Pathology department is actively involved in providing services to the patients in the areas of hematology, biochemistry, histopathology, cytology, and microbiology. The curriculum is related to the overall development of the students in the dental anatomy, dental histology and to identify the pathological and microbiological aspects of the disease.

The department has well organized and active Hematology Section, Serology Section, Histopathology Section, Cytology Section, Research Section. The Under Graduate Section is well equipped with 40 monocular light microscopes, which is being used to demonstrate the microscopic features of normal structures (65 slides) & diseases process (85 slides). There are good numbers of self-explanatory charts/models of normal & abnormal structures of oral region. The departmental museum has unique collection of study models, hard & soft tissue specimens which are neatly displayed in separate sections like dental anatomy, comparative dental anatomy, developmental disturbances and pathological lesions based on various etiologies. The undergraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in the department.
