Orthodontics

Orthodontics, formally Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the first specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as “dentofacial orthopaedics”.

The department has experienced and skilled faculty which trains and educates the students to be competent in treating and managing patients who require preventive, interceptive and corrective care  of malposed teeth and jaws.  The teaching program includes extensive clinical and laboratory training of students in the areas of removable and fixed orthodontic appliances. The Department caters to the needs of patients requiring correction of malposed teeth by fixed /removable appliances. The department has all the modern equipment, instrument and a well developed infrastructure for the best quality treatment provision.

The department offers postgraduate program in the Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics specialty with the intake of Five postgraduate students per year. The postgraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in both clinics and academics.
