The department of Public Health Dentistry is dedicated in training of the undergraduate students to look after the community rather than an individual. The department works on the principle of “placing people’s health in people’s hand”. It focuses on the Promotive, preventive and curative aspects of the disease with the help of various outreach programs in the community. The department is concerned with the dental health education of the community, research and the application of the research findings for the prevention and control of dental diseases through community efforts. The department promotes the overall development of the students and education is based on the principle of “Learning
by Doing.”

The outreach programs are carried out on regular basis with the help of mobile dental unit through organized dental camps. The camps are conducted with the aim of making people aware about the oral health, promoting oral health among them and provision of basic  treatments such as oral prophylaxis, Extractions & restorations free of cost. The department also conducts School Health Programs which includes the parents, teachers & students’ education about the oral health, fluoride applications and routine oral health check up of the students on regular basis. The ultimate goal of the department is to specifically look after the weaker sections of the community and to focus on overall preventive, promotive & curative aspects of the oral health.

He has completed his post-graduation from Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College & Research Centre, Moradabad. He also holds the degree of MPH from the University of Nicaragua in collaboration with Texila American University. He has participated in national and international conferences; presented posters and papers in the same. He is the Editor-in-Chief of “International Journal of Advanced Health Sciences” and Editorial Board Member of “International Journal of Scientific Study.” He received the certificate of appreciation for The World’s Largest Free Dental Health Checkup Camp which made an entry into the “Guinness Book of World Records” on 13th November 2014. He was Elsevier Student Ambassadors (ESA) for the year 2014-2015. He has total eighteen publications on his name out of which five publications are as a first author. His active area of research includes Tobacco & its ill effects on oral health, Traumatic injuries of children and the overall oral health of the community

He has completed his BDS from GDC Aurangabad in year 1990.  He has also attended various national conferences and CDE programs.  He is working as a NSS chief program officer of MIDSR dental college & involved in organizing various programs such as save child girl, programs against dowry, Blood donation camp, pulse polio program, swatchata abhiyan program, importance of voting,  tree plantation, water preservation & established emergency care unit program.

She has completed her post-graduation from Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet. She has attended many CDE programs and hands on programs. She has participated in various state and national conferences; presented posters and papers in the same. She has total six publications on her name. Her active area of research includes epidemiological studies regarding health status and treatment needs of various populations, Tobacco & its ill effects on oral health, Chieloscopy in forensic identification.  

 


 




Infrastructure :-

                    The department of public health dentistry is situated on the first floor of the MIDSR Dental College and has various sections in it such as clinical section, Sterilization room, HOD cabin, Departmental library and teaching section.

                     The department of public health dentistry has two satellite centers, one of which is an urban centre located in Khadgaon & other one is rural health centre located in Rameshwar. The urban health centre in Khadgaon is at 4.5 km distance from the MIDSR Dental College, Latur. It is located in a slum area & main aim of this is to provide treatment for unprivileged poor people who can’t afford the treatment. The rural health centre in Rameshwar is at 24km distance from the MIDSR Dental College, Latur. The centre provides basic treatments at affordable cost & the patient is referred to MIDSR Dental College for advance treatments.

                     The department of Public Health Dentistry is involved in various activities such as conduction of camps, awareness rallies, Run for Unity, World Health Day celebrations and Tree plantation program. It also organizes visits of the students to the Milk Dairy, Primary Health Centre, Blood Bank etc to make them learn about the functioning of the same. The outreach programs are conducted on the regular basis with the help of mobile dental unit which focuses on three basic aspects of patient awareness, Screening for disease and treatment of the same. The Camp cards are distributed to the patients on which concession is provided on certain treatments.

The department of Public Health Dentistry at the MIDSR College & Hospital Latur offers a graduate advance training program in Public Health Dentistry, which is approved and accredited by the Dental council of India.
