Periodontics

Department of Periodontics provides knowledge & clinical practice regarding etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases involving supporting periodontal tissues i.e gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum and alveolar bone.
The departmental aim is to provide the students with a strong educational foundation as well clinical training for their proficient future careers in dentistry and also to contribute new knowledge through basic & clinical research in Periodontics.
Periodontal treatment procedures mainly include nonsurgical and surgical approach. Nonsurgical periodontal therapy includes scaling and root planning, local drug delivery and systemic antibiotics. Surgical treatment procedures include gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, reconstructive, resective osseous surgeries and periodontal plastic surgery. The Department also involves the placement and maintenance of dental implants, including the treatment of peri-implantitis which is inflammatory bone loss around dental implants.
Apart from routine periodontal therapies, this department takes pride in incorporating state- of the art technology like:
Latest Surgical Techniques
•    Reconstructive surgeries using bone graft, GTR, PRP & PRF
•    Advanced surgical procedures like placement dental implants
•    Bloodless flap surgeries with the laser technology.
•    Minimal invasive surgery by using microsurgical kit.
•    Iontophoresis unit for dentinal hypersensitivity
•    Painless surgical procedures using Electrocautery
Special care is taken to plan the treatment by interacting with other specialities on a regular basis. No charges are levied in treatment for camp Patients, However nominal charges are fixed for regular patients.

Infrastructure :-

The Department has spacious, fully equipped separate undergraduate clinic and postgraduate Clinic with isolated surgical section for advanced surgical procedures like dental implants and laser. Post Graduate section is also comprised of Departmental Library, Museum, sterilization room, Post graduate student's room, Faculty room, research room and patients waiting lobby. The department is well equipped with fully functional 44 dental chairs. All consumable materials are freely available for use to the students and doctors for treating patient.

Seminars, journal clubs and case discussions are conducted for post graduate and under graduate students.
CDE programmes are held continuously by the department.

UG Details :-
Third BDS and fourth BDS Students report to the department for clinical postings. Interns are trained for scaling and root planning and minor surgical procedure.

PG Details :-
• Every year three MDS students are admitted in the Department. Post graduates perform pre-clinical work and practice clinical work as per three years planned programme.
• Weekly seminars, journal clubs and case discussions are conducted for post graduate students.
• Post Graduate students actively participate in Inter Departmental discussions and they regularly attend satellite dental clinics situated in rural areas where they are exposed to variety of clinical cases.
